Fall Cleanup Around New Chapel Construction

On Saturday 23 October 2010, a good number of the Ulan-Ude Branch Saints went to clean-up around the construction site of the new branch chapel.  The cleanup also included the areas across the streets from the chapel.  It was snowing lightly during the cleanup, with the temperature in the teens.  A few photos are shown below:

Baba  Luba - who is winning, her or the brush?  I love the expression on her face.  Okay, I wrote the first two names in Russian, sometimes it is easier for me (Sister Moleff) to do that than try to figure out how to spell the name in English.

These photos show the construction of our new Chapel in Ulan-Ude.  We will not be in Ulan-Ude for the completion of the Chapel contruction or its dedication which should be in March. The lower right photo shows a few of the cleaning crew with their "Helping Hands" vests.



You don't need a fire permit or to worry about burn days.  You just do what it takes to get the job done.  By-the-way, the ashes from the fire were buried in the ground.  It was nice to take a break and get warm by the fire.  Wish I had had some Oscar Meyer all beef hot dogs and some marshmellows.  Then I would have needed hot dog buns and French's Mustard.



Nina was making sure Baba Luba (72 years old) was going to wear her hood.  Nina's granddaughter came to help also; she raked, picked up garbage and carried twigs to the fire.  In this picture you see the oldest and youngest members of the work crew.  Baba Luba is about 10 months older than Elder Moleff.  She calls him her Younger Brother and he calls her his Older Sister.



It was WORK but we all know by working together it goes faster and spending time with friends is the reward.



This picture is added as a point of illustration.  Many of the single or multi-dwelling homes or "Daches" do not have running water or toilet facilities.  The water is supplied from a spigot sticking up out of the ground, where people come with buckets for water like the person in the photo is doing.  This method of gathering water happens a few blocks from the center of town in Ulan-Ude.  New apartment buildings are going up all around town to replace the old ones.
